Why friend finder?

Making friends is a vital part of growing up for all children.

We know just how hard it is for kids with a disability to assimilate with society at large.

Although schools and organisations alike are becoming increasingly aware of inclusion and bullying, it still remains difficult for many to fit in and truly feel a sense of belonging.

Even though society is becoming good at understanding disability, it is still often lacking in opportunities to form true connections. It is an opportunity to make connections with someone like them. Someone that understands, someone that someone gets it. A chance to grow and a chance to make memories with one another. The gift of friendships is something that will always be valued. Everyone deserves this chance.

Mutual friendships?

Friendships that are built on shared interests, similar capabilities, or have shared similar difficulties. Where children can relate to one another. A chance to build mutual reciprocal friendships. Where they are equal partners and feel valued for who they are as individuals, rather than cared for or having someone looking out for them.

Carers can relate

It’s an opportunity for parents in similar situations to speak with someone else, either facing similar difficulties or have been through similar things before.

  • Mutual understanding of what the trials of raising or supporting a child with a disability can be.
  • Having someone to share your experiences with.
  • Watching your children grow and be happy during this special time.
